Monastery accomodation

Monastery accomodation - staying overnight at Tyniec Abbey.

Monastery accommodation gives remarkable and peaceful experience.
Tyniec situated on the right bank of the Wisla (Vistula) river,  12-13 km off the city centre of Cracow. Hills, forest and the river makes the views really stunning. Almost 1000 years ago Benedictines arrived here and decided to built a monastery on the rock by the Vistula river.

The monastery forms few courtyards designed ad quadratum. The church was supposed to protect the monastery from the northern wind. The place is surrounded by old trees.
Unfortunately it is not possible to poke in the monastery gardens. They open only once a year, usually beginning of June and only 1 day.
The guest-house is located in the part called 'Opatówka'.

Rooms are clean, tidy and peaceful. This is part of the corridor in 'Opatowka'.

Bathrooms.

Nearby church rings the bell at 5.30 to wake up monks living in separate part of the abbey.

Monastery accommodation - silence, no crowd, amazing view to  Wisła (Vistula) river cutting gently the landscape. Simply different way of spending vacation.

Castle accomodation

Recently I was in castle in Tuczno originally built in medieval times. It is carefully renovated, located among old woods, in the least populated region. The way it looks today is not exactly the way it looked when it was built first – today it’s more renaissance palazzo, as it was rebuilt in that epoch.

The construction of this park started in 1338 by Ludwik and Lamprecht von Wedel mighty German family. It was originally planned as gothic building, where living area was planned in eastern side. It was very strategic castle – Karol IV mentioned it as one of 12 strongest castles located east of river Oder. In 1458 the castle was burned. It was very important stronghold, so there was lots of fighting about it was in possession of many different guys in the course of the history.

In the park around there are old trees and pond with artificial island. If you take a boat available at the reception, you may go under little bridge and in few minutes reach the nearest lake.

The village Tuczno is surprisingly small if you compare it with the castle and the big church located in the center of Tuczno.

There are bicycles to rent at the castle's reception, so you can easily get to the WW2 bunkers available for sightseeing. A group of enthusiasts are also dressed in the uniforms of that time, presenting weapons and telling stories.

Antygravity point!
If you get there please remember about antygravity point in Strączno called Czarodziejska Góra or Diabelska Góra. This is a place where a car with switched off engine is moving up the hill just by itself! Don’t believe it? I saw it with my own eyes last weekend! Two locals that stopped by us curious said, that this place sometimes is more active, sometimes less. One day they saw a bus moving up!

One of the best time to spend in Poland is to travel and find accommodation in the castles.

Vintage farm house in Masovia

Beautiful, made of wood, vintage farm house was pulled down, each piece is numbered, moved to new location from eastern Poland and put together again. Below you can see how an architect friend made a weekend house for herself - two old houses joint together to make a big one.

On the left - first old house. On the right side - you can see the only new part that joints both houses together.

Two houses made to one - I love it. Perfect job. Can you have a closer look? See what I see? This house in fact is two houses joint together with and an open space. First house is on the left side, second on the right side. 2 old wooden houses brought from eastern part of Poland.

Maybe this is not common practice, but sometimes the only chance if you want to live in vintage farm house.

Flood in Poland

It was the highest water level on Wisla since 100 years - see on the picture how high it is under the bridge. In May 2010 natural disaster hit Poland - floods. The big water on Wisla river came to Warsaw on 21st of May. It reached 7,78 cm and was only 22 cm lower than any protective embanks could take. On the left side - sidewalk covered with water and barge, that is usually parked just at there and you can walk in when water level is lower.
